Irrigation Sprinkler Pump

Irrigation Sprinkler Pump, Electric motor or Gas Engine powered

Sprinkler pumps draws water from a shallow source—such as a well, pond, lake, or rain barrel—and builds up the necessary water pressure to run residential or commercial lawn sprinkler / irrigation heads. So these pumps have a steep flow curve compared to a standard high flow centrifugal pump.

When considering a sprinkler or irrigation pump for lawns, gardens, and fields there are a couple of factors that influence a pump’s performance. Application experts ready to help you size your Irrigation Sprinkler Pump.

  • Horsepower (HP): Most residential systems require between 1 HP and 2 HP, 1/2 to 1 if just a booster. Higher HP allows the pump to power more zones or push water uphill. Your sprinkler head will have a rating of Xgpm@Xpsi. Pressure is constant / zone and flow is a multiple of the # heads.
  • Water Source Depth: Above-ground centrifugal and jet pumps can only lift water from a max depth of 20 to 25 feet. For deeper wells, you will need a dedicated deep-well jet pump or a submersible pump. Bigger pipe is better, do not undersize due to friction loss (pressure drop).
  • Voltage (115V vs. 230V): Portable units run on standard 115V/120V wall outlets. Heavy-duty permanent pumps often feature dual-voltage configurations but operate most efficiently on a dedicated 230V/240V breaker circuit. Single and three phase (industrial locations) are available. Just like pipe size, motor wire size should be bigger the longer the run or HP. See Technical tab.
  • Priming: Look for a self-priming design. While they still require you to fill the pump housing with water before the very first use, they retain water between cycles so you do not have to manually prime them every time they cycle on.
