Centrifugal and positive rotary pumps are built to meet 3-A Sanitary Standard Number 02-09. Food-grade pumps are designed for COP (cleaning-out-of-place), and are built to be partially/completely disassembled quickly using simple hand tools. CIP (cleaning-in-place) pumps. A CIP pump allows cleaning solutions to access surfaces having contact with product, without disassembling it. CIP pumps often cost more than COP pumps because of design requirements and more complex piping.
