Pump Types on PumpBiz are broken down into thier top level categories. We have centrifugal pumps: Trash, High Pressure, Chemical, Submersible, magnetic, vertical, booster. In positive displacement: diaphragm, metering, plunger, gear. The left navigation also provides pump selection by application.
Air Operated Diaphragm
A diaphragm pump is a positive displacement pump that uses a combination of the reciprocating action of a rubber, thermoplastic or teflon diaphragm and suitable non-return check valves to pump a fluid. Sometimes this type of pump is also called a membrane pump.

![]() Booster Pumps A booster pump is a pump that maintains positive pressure between the fuel tank and the engine, thus intensifying the flow. Any pump to increase the pressure of the liquid in some part of a pipe circuit.
|
Drum PumpsDrum pump refers to pumps that are used in barrels and drums. Primary uses are in 55 gallon barrels but they are also used in 5, 15, 30, 55, 275 and 330 gallon containers
|
Fire PumpsFire Pumps provide a high volume of water for fire protection and fighting
|
Fuel Transfer PumpsA Fuel transfer pump is a pump that transfers fuel from the tank to the engine.

Sump Pumps
A sump pump is a pump used to remove water that has accumulated in a water collecting sump basin, commonly found in the basement of homes. The water may enter via the perimeter drains of a basement waterproofing system, funneling into the basin or because of rain or ground water.
|
Centrifugal PumpsA centrifugal pump converts the input power to kinetic energy in the liquid by accelerating the liquid by a revolving device - an impeller. Fluid enters the pump through the eye of the impeller which rotates at high speed. The fluid is accelerated radially outward from the pump chasing. A vacuum is created at the impellers eye that continuously draws more fluid into the pump. |
Trash PumpsTrash pumps are designed to pump wastewater that contains hard and soft solids. Frequently use for basement bathrooms to lift the bathroom waste water to a higher wasteline.
|
Hand Pumps Hand pumps use human power and mechanical advantage to move fluids from one place to another. |
Irrigation / Sprinkler PumpsThe heart of most irrigation / sprinkler systems. To make an irrigation system as efficient as possible, the pump must be selected to match the requirements of the water source, the water piping system and the irrigation equipment
|
Submersible Sewage Pumps
Submersible Pumps are usually electrically driven centrifugal pumps, housed in a water proof casing, which can be submerged in a liquid and pump the liquid through a pumping main. |
Chemical Pumps Chemical Pumps remove gas from a vacuum system by acting it with another to form a compound of very low vapor pressure. |
Well PumpsWell Pumps are used to deliver water in usable, safe pressure to the water system. There are two types of pumps, centrifugal and submersible, used in well water systems. |
Fountin Pumps |
Sewage PumpsSewage pumps are specific types of pumps used to pump sewage to the main sewer or drain line. Many of these pumps are specifically designed to withstand solids of up to 2” as well as being made of material that keeps the pump from corroding or falling apart during while pumping. |
High Pressure PumpsHigh pressure Pumps draw water from an outside source (usually a garden hose attached to a faucet) and pushes it with an amount of force to produce pressure as high as 3000 to 5000 PSI (a garden hose used by itself operates only at 40 to 50 PSI.) |
Pond pumps are used to pump water from the pond to either the filtration system or to oxygenators such as waterfalls. They come in different sizes and are rated as to how many gallons/litres of water that they can pump through per hour.
utility pump |
Piston PumpsA type of hydraulic pump that uses cam lobe action against pistons to generate hydraulic fluid flow for the lifting of implements. Piston pumps create a flow by pistons moving in and out of cylinder bores as the latter pass over inlet and outlet ports |
